Every face is the Makeup Artist’s canvas , but for the perfect application there needs to be adequate skin preparation.
No two skins are the same; however some tried and tested products always come through for me , whether it’s for a photoshoot, runway, special occassion or wedding.
Taking the beauty industry by storm is the French Pharmacy brands such as Biorderma, Embryolisse, La Roche Posay, Avene etc. Unless you live in France, finding these treasures can be expensive, I have found a great supplier of some of the top sellers here at;
Below are the essentials I keep on hand at all times, including my favorite body products, click the links to shop!
Bioderma Micellar Water
The holy grail of makeup cleansers, Biorderma is dermatologically tested, great for sensitive skin, is a non-rinse formula , removes all traces of makeup (including waterproof) and is gentle on the eyes and skin. I use this in the morning and night – morning to cleanse my skin before my skin care routine and at night to remove makeup.
A refreshing soft rose scented mist, that helps keep the skin hydrated throughout the day, I always spray this on before, during and after the makeup to make sure it stays fresh and skin stays hydrated. I keep one in my kit and one in my hand bag , it’s like my own little spritz of zen!
The most amazing product for an on the spot exfoliation, non- abrasive and gentle enough for sensitive skin, helps to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells, results are instant revealing a fresh complexion. Apply to skin DRY and massage for one minute, rinse with water (I use Bioderma) dead skin will be visibly removed and skin looking fresh and ready for moisturiser and flawless makeup.
Full of caffeine, it’s the perfect under eye pick-me-up , I apply a small amount to moisturise and de-puff eyes before makeup application, it’s not too heavy and less is more. This product is also amazing for cleaning up edges on lip lines, eye liner and even shadow.
Boiron Homeoplasmine Repair Cream
A homeopathic multi-purpose cream designed to treat a variety of skin irritations, cuts, burns and redness. Antiseptic and amazing for drys areas, including dry chapped lips (my main use for it). I have used this on my eyes when they have been dry & sore from irritation it soothed and moisturised them instantly, it’s non- greasy, non- shiny and contains no fragrance (even men love it!) protects as well as nourishes.
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate
The French really know what they are doing when it comes to amazing skincare, found on lists all around the world as one of the most used beauty products, this creme is super hydrating, nourishing yet light weight and non greasy. Prepares and hydrates the skin for flawless makeup application. I always put it on after I have cleansed the skin and let it soak in, it makes the complexion appear plump and supple. All of their products are paraben free and not tested in animals.
As mentioned in my previous blog post “Illuminators and the light within” Strobe cream is also a great product for giving skin a radiant complexion, also hydrates and can be mixed with foundation or applied in conjunction with a moisturiser for added luminosity.
Ultimate subtle shimmer moisturise lotion for the body, smells scrumptious , moisturises and most importantly does not transfer onto clothing, does require to be rubbed in quiet vigorously to ensure it’s even.
I always love having an oil in my kit as they have so many functions. This delicious nutty oil is light weight but super hydrating and gives a great shine to the body, you can also use it on the hair and face. A little goes a long way, mix it with Palmer’s Body Gloss for a high shine shimmer.
What’s in your kit? What should I try next?
